Baccalaureate Degrees

VUJC Law Enforcement

More and more law enforcement agencies are requiring college degrees. It’s a highly competitive field and those applicants with a degree are the ones scoring highest on written examinations. This means they are hired and promoted first.

At VU and VUJC, you will learn from a diverse and highly qualified faculty using a variety of methods and experiences including:

• case studies
• criminalistics laboratory
• class lectures
• campus police cadets
• an optional internship program

THE VU ADVANTAGE
VU is the only Indiana college or university with a modern, state-of-the art criminalistics lab. This half-million dollar lab facility gives you the opportunity to practice the latest in scientific methods including:

• fingerprinting
• document examination
• toxicology
• weapons identification
• photography
• headlamp examination

WHY VU?
The optional internship program requires students to work 200 hours with an agency and write about the experience. Students observe, ride with police officers, and work in most phases of the agency before they are evaluated by the officers.
Students who study Law Enforcement at the VU Jasper Campus are encouraged to contact the VUJC advisor, Lou Ann Gilbert, if interested in this option.  This combination of classroom theory, case study, and hands-on experience is the main reason the program has been so successful.

Between 70 and 75 percent of our graduates go on to work in law enforcement, with more than 200 graduates currently employed by the  Indiana State Police. Scholarships are available.

NOTE: This degree transfers directly into VU’s B.S. Degree in Homeland Security and Public Safety, offered at both the Vincennes and the Jasper campuses.
