SALARIES AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The nation (including Indiana) is presently experiencing a shortage of qualified Family and Consumer Science teachers.  This makes for excellent job opportunities!  According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the 2015 median annual income of secondary teachers was $57,200.

THE VU ADVANTAGE

You will have the opportunity during your first two years of education to participate in 30 hours of field activity in an actual classroom.  By starting at Vincennes University, this exposure will take place early in your education, not just as an upperclassman!

VU is Indiana’s First College and continues to be Indiana’s most affordable residential college.  At Vincennes University you will have the advantage of small classes and labs, free tutoring, excellent course transferability, and hands-on instructional activities.

Career Outcomes

This curriculum is designed for students wishing to complete the first two years of a four-year program leading to licensing as a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher in grades 7 through 12.

WHAT DO OUR GRADUATES SAY?

"I attended VU first before transferring to a larger university to complete my degree in FCS Education.  As a result, I enjoyed the small class sizes and being able to communicate with the professors at Vincennes University.  Many of the projects and learning approaches I use in my classroom today, I learned while in Vincennes University Family & Consumer Sciences courses." --Susan Nowaskie, VU Alum & Family & Consumer Sciences teacher, South Knox School Corporation
