March 11, 2019 / Trailblazers bowling team finishes 7th at ITC sectional

ADDISON, Ill. – The Vincennes University bowling team competed for the chance to make it to the national tournament at an Intercollegiate Team Championships sectional March 9-10 at Stardust Bowl.

The format was 64 Baker games over two days. The top four men’s teams from each of the four sectionals advanced to the pinnacle event of the season, the Intercollegiate Team Championships, April 17-20 in Dayton, Ohio.

The Trailblazers came up just short with a seventh-place finish out of the 20 teams in their division. They averaged 189.9 over the 64 games, 3.5 pins shy in average to advance.

“This by far is the most grueling tournament format college bowling has to offer,” VU Bowling Coach Jesse Gibson said. “The mental fatigue teams experience grinding through the longest format of the year separates the prepared and shows the true colors of a team.

“This year we dug ourselves a hole to start out which had us sitting 10th and almost 350 pins out of the cut going into Day Two. This was attainable, but was going to require a very solid day to play catch up. Unfortunately for every great game to make up pins came an unforgiving 150 to slow down our efforts. Ultimately as always it came down to spare shooting and minimizing our errors which we showed glimpses of throughout our performance.”

VU finished the season 35th out of 179 ranked teams.
