March 11, 2019 / Trailblazers pick up win on diamond

VINCENNES, Ind. - The Vincennes University baseball team recorded an 8-1 win over visiting Schoolcraft at Jerry Blemker Field on Friday afternoon.

After allowing a run in the top of the first inning, the Trailblazers responded with single tallies in each of the first four innings.

VU put the game away with a four-run outburst in the home half of the seventh inning.

The Trailblazers were efficient at the plate needing just five hits to produce the eight runs while taking advantage of four walks and miscues by the Ocelots.

Ryan Robison and Bricem Thompson both picked up a pair of hits in three trips to the plate.

Robison recorded a double and scored two runs, while both of Thompson’s hits were two baggers and he also scored a run.

Isaiah Davis produced the only other Trailblazer hit - a two-run double.

Walker Paris did not record a hit in three official at bats, but managed to drive home two runs, while Caleb Helms hit a sacrifice fly.

Sean Becke, Tyler Estes, Will Randall, Ian Martin and Robison all stole one base apiece on the basepaths.

Trailblazer coach Chris Barney used the game as a pitching day for his hurlers as nine different Trailblazers pitched an inning.

Jacob Cochrum was awarded the win with his scoreless frame in the second inning.

Kasey Cheek and Paris both fanned two batters in their respective inning of work, as the VU pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts in the game.
