#23 Lady Blazers Use Big 2nd Half to Coast 22nd win of the Season at Olney Central

OLNEY, IL- The #23 ranked Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers came into Olney Central on Satruday afternoon 12-and-1 in District B play. They would score 58 of their 90 points in the second half, and use double-doubles from freshman Ladellia Maggett and sophomore Laurhen Pickett to skate to a 13th District B win, 90-to-63.

The Lady Blazers seemed to be locked in a tight one with the Lady Knights of Olney Central early in the first. The teams traded basket after basket for several possessions to start the game before Laurhen Pickett and Freshman Mykah Roth would get the ball rolling for VU. Pickett scored VU’s first 6 points, and totaled 11 in the first, while Roth contributed 6, to give the Lady Blazers a 19-to-11 lead after the first quarter of play.

Right out of the gate, Maggett knocked down a triple to get things started for VU in the 2nd. Olney Central would manage to go on a run to get within 6 with 3 minutes to play in the 2nd quarter of action, but that would be as close as they would inch the rest of the game. The Lady Blazers took a 32-24 lead into half-time thanks to 15 from Pickett, 9 from Maggett, and 8 from Mykah Roth.

The 2nd half was all Trailblazers, and nearly all Ladellia Maggett. The Lady Blazers outscored Olney Central 58-to-36 in the 2nd half of play, and Ladellia Maggett would score 25 of her game-high 34 points, on-the-way to a 90-to-63 victory for VU at Olney Central. The win marks the 22nd for the Lady Blazers this year, and moves them to 13-and-1 in District B play.

VU was led in scoring by Ladellia Maggett who scored 34 points off 6-of-9 shooting from 3-point range, and dished out 10 assists to rack up yet another double-double. Maggett has now knocked down 44 3-point baskets on the year, and is averaging nearly 9 assists a contest. Laurhen Pickett racked up another double-double, adding 22 points and 10 rebounds to the stats column. Mykah Roth would round-out the Lady Blazers in double-figures as she added 14 points on the night.

The #23 ranked Lady Trailblazers (22-4) will return to district action next Wednesday at Lincoln Trail College (5-14)! Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. EST! Go VU!
