Baseball gets two wins over ranked team

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University baseball team picked up a pair of wins over nationally ranked Heartland in a Mid-West Athletic Conference series.

The Trailblazers beat the No. 19 Hawks 9-2 in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday and won 7-2 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.

VU freshman pitcher Kacey Cheek struck out 11 batters, walked one and threw a complete game in Saturday’s victory . He allowed four hits and two runs in seven innings. He faced 29 batters.

Sophomore Brian Campbell finished the win with two RBIs. Sophomores Treven Madden and Tyler Estes had two hits apiece.

VU and Heartland split the series at Jerry Blemker Field 2-2. Heartland won the other games 11-5 and 5-1.

The Trailblazers have a 20-25 overall record and 8-16 conference record.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.

Play for Kay Cancer Awareness

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. Kay Yow was a college head coach for 38 years and past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Her name is synonymous with North Carolina State. She is a member of the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame and achieved more than 700 career victories. Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She passed away in 2009 after an on-again, off-again battle with the disease.
