Cheek and Becker make commitments where to play baseball after VU

Vincennes, Ind. - The 2020 Spring baseball season is just around the corner. Prior to the season, two student athletes, RHP Kacey Cheek and SS/C Sean Becker have made commitments as to where they will play in the 2020-2021 season. Both have chosen to play at Indiana University–Kokomo in Kokomo, Indiana.

Kacey Cheek..

RHP Kacey Cheek (6’3, 185) is a sophomore who is coming off of an impressive 2019 spring campaign. He made 14 appearances starting 12 games and had a 3 win – 4 loss record with a 2.34 ERA and 1 complete game. In 57.2 innings pitched he gave up 47 hits walked 38 and struck out 66 batters. Kacey is from Oblong, Illinois and attended Oblong HS.

"I chose Vincennes University because of the facilities, coaching staff, and my brother played baseball here for 2 years. I wanted to fill his shoes here and be better than he was. Coach Barney has helped me these past 2 years by giving me the opportunity to become the best person I can be on and off the field. Being here at Vincennes University has helped me become a great person in the classroom, on the field, and has helped gain friendships that will last a lifetime. Vincennes University has taught me to always want to be successful, from getting good grades to pitching really well on the baseball field. I chose IU-Kokomo because of the coaching staff, facilities, and the academics. While attending IUK, I am majoring in sports management. Also, will graduate with an Indiana University degree. I will be a pitcher on the baseball staff at IUK and I hope to help out the staff as much as I can."

Sean Becker..

Sophomore Sean Becker (6’0, 170) played in 44 games, starting 41 as a freshman. He saw a majority of his time behind the dish as our catcher but also started at SS and CF last season.   Sean hit .290 scored 25 runs had 36 hits including 5 doubles, 12 RBI’s, and stole 12 bases.  Sean comes from Evansville, Indiana and played his prep baseball at Evansville Central HS.

“I chose Vincennes because of the facilities, campus, and Coach Barney. He definitely made an impact on my decision. Best decision I have made! The past two years, I have grown in many ways on and off the field. I met some of my best friends for life here. I also learned to balance academics, social life, and baseball. It has made me the person I am today, and I am extremely grateful for that. I chose IU-Kokomo because of the facilities, the coaching staff, and the opportunity to earn an Indiana University degree.”

Coach Barney says..

The Vincennes University family is very excited for both Kacey and Sean. They have really developed over the last two years and been able to contribute to last year’s success on the field.  They will be very tough to replace after this year but we’re looking forward to having them for the 2020 spring season and expecting that both will be major contributors to this season’s success.”
