Dossett leads VU past Owens, 59-50, in VU's first game of Sodexo Classic

Sophomore Brooke Dossett knocked down four 3-pointers on the way to a game-high 15 points, grabbed six rebounds, dished out four assists and registered five steals in leading the Vincennes University Women's Basketball Team to a 59-50 win over Owens Saturday night in the Trailblazers' first game fo the Sodexo Classic at the VU P.E. Complex.

VU (6-1) also got 13 points from sophomore Kyra Tucker and 10 from sophomore Chelsea Bentley as the Trailblazers earned their sixth consecutive victory.

The Trailblazers and Express battled to a 32-30 VU lead at halftime. The game stayed fairly tight the rest of the way as the score was tied four times and there were seven lead changes. Owens' largest lead was four points with about 1:30 left in the first half, while the Trailblazers managed to post an 11-point cushion late in the contest.

VU will return to the VU P.E. Complex floor Sunday for the last game of the Sodexo Classic. The Trailblazers will face Malcolm X at 3 p.m. after Owens and Olney Central square off in a 1 p.m.

Play for Kay Cancer Awareness

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. Kay Yow was a college head coach for 38 years and past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Her name is synonymous with North Carolina State. She is a member of the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame and achieved more than 700 career victories. Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She passed away in 2009 after an on-again, off-again battle with the disease.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.
