Lawson's arm, Dransfield's bat lead VU past host Olney Central

OLNEY, Ill. – The Vincennes University Baseball Team defeated host Olney Central, 12-7, Wednesday behind sophomore Mitchell Lawson’s six innings of one-run work on the mound and freshman Lane Dransfield’s three-run home run.
Lawson (4-3) picked up the victory by scattering five hits, striking out six and walking one batter before giving way to sophomore Colton Pittman for the seventh and eighth innings and freshman Zach Longnecker in the ninth.
In addition to Dransfield's homer - as part of a 2-for-6 day at the plate - he scored twice. Sophomore Alex Rojas was 4-for-6 with a double, sophomore Chris Minks finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and sophomore Matt Volz had three hits in three plate appearances, plus a pair of runs scored. In addition, freshman Justin Kirkpatrick was 2-for-4 with a double and three runs.
Dransfield’s three-run bomb came in the fourth inning after freshman Austin Slover was hit by a pitch and sophomore Matt Volz singled. With two outs, Dransfield scored both runners in front of him to make it 4-1 VU (23-20). The Trailblazers added another run in the fifth and then posted their other seven runs in the seventh inning.
In that seventh frame, led off with a walk, followed by one-out bases on balls by Volz and sophomore Kaleb Waller. Then, Dransfield singled, sophomore Alex Rojas doubled, sophomore Lance Myers singled and sophomore Chris Minks followed with another hit. Following the inning’s second out, Kirkpatrick doubled in his second at-bat of the inning to drive in the remaining runs.
When the dust cleared from that half-inning, VU led 12-1.
