Modified schedules announced for NJCAA district tournaments at RLC in Ina, IL

INA, Ill. – Rend Lake College, the site of the NJCAA District 16 Men’s Basketball Tournament and the NJCAA District P Women’s Basketball Tournament in Ina, IL, is closed today because of impending winter weather in the southern Illinois region.

Today’s scheduled men’s tournament opening round/quarterfinal games have been

rescheduled for Thursday and both the men’s and women’s events have been delayed one day.

The women’s tournament, which had all four opening round games played Tuesday, will now have semifinal games on Friday and its championship game on Saturday night.

Men’s Updated Bracket Schedule:

The No. 1 seed VU Men will play eighth-seeded Lewis & Clark at 1 p.m. (EST) Thursday. The game will be followed by fourth seeded Southwestern Illinois and No. 5 seed Wabash Valley at 3 p.m. (EST), then second seed John A. Logan vs. No. 7 seed Lake Land at 7 p.m. (EST) and No. 3 seed Kaskaskia and sixth seed Olney Central at 9 p.m. (EST).

The semifinal round’s two games will be as follows: Winner of Game 1 vs. Winner of Game 2 at 7 p.m. (EST) Friday, followed by the Winner of Game 3 against the Winner of Game 4 at 9 p.m. (EST) Friday.

The men’s tournament’s championship game is now set for 8 p.m. (EST) on Saturday.

Women’s Updated Bracket Schedule:

Top-seeded Wabash Valley and fifth seed Olney Central will now face each other in a semifinal game at 1 p.m. (EST) Friday. Second seed VU and No. 3 seed Kaskaskia will follow at 3 p.m. (EST). The winners of those two games will meet in Saturday’s 6 p.m. (EST) championship game.

Play for Kay Cancer Awareness

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. Kay Yow was a college head coach for 38 years and past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Her name is synonymous with North Carolina State. She is a member of the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame and achieved more than 700 career victories. Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She passed away in 2009 after an on-again, off-again battle with the disease.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.
