Two-time NJCAA champ Moricz to continue pole vaulting career at Marian University

Two-time NJCAA national champion pole vaulter Kaitlyn Moricz will continue her collegiate career at Marian University.
Moricz said she settled on the NAIA-member school in Indianapolis because it was simply “the best fit” for her, both academically and athletically. The school allows her to continue in her major, psychology with an emphasis in sports psychology, while providing a small-university atmosphere that she was seeking. Moricz said she was also comfortable with the Knights’ coaching staff.
At the 2015 NJCAA Outdoor National Championships in Hutchinson, KS, Moricz – a Lake Central High School product from St. John, IN – claimed the pole vault crown with an effort of 12 feet, 3.64 inches, for her second national championship during her VU career. The honor joined her title from the 2014 NJCAA Indoor National Championships in New York City when she vaulted 12 feet, 7.5 inches.
Besides the two pole vault national titles, Moricz was the national runner-up at the 2015 NJCAA Indoor National Championships in Albuquerque, NM, with a performance of 11 feet, 11.75 inches, and came in second at the 2014 Outdoor National Championships in Mesa, AZ, with a vault of 12 feet, 7.57 inches.
Marian’s best women’s pole vaulter during the past season was a senior who posted a top performance of the 2015 campaign of just over 10 feet.
Moricz isn’t satisfied with the two NJCAA crowns and pair of national runner-up finishes, and said she will head to Marian with goals of new personal records. “Thirteen and higher!,” she said with a laugh, referring to a goal of vaulting at least 13 feet for Marian.

Play4Kay

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
