No. 1 VU remains perfect with 27th win of the season, 76-65 over SWIC

The NJCAA No. 1 Vincennes Trailblazers added to their historic season Saturday night with a 76-65 win over visiting Southwestern Illinois College, behind 16 points each by sophomores Mychal Mulder and Donte McGill.

The physical battle that featured a total of 50 fouls and 62 free throws also had six lead changes.

Sophomore Charles Foster finished with 12 points, sophomore A.J. Patty pulled down nine rebounds and sophomore Everett Clemons dished out seven assists and scored 10 points for VU (27-0). Foster recorded five assists and McGill was credited with four.

SWIC was led by Christopher Galbreath's 14 points. De'Antae Murray had 13 and Quan Poindexter 10. Hunter Reine had nine points and 15 rebounds.

VU opened up a 40-28 halftime lead and then fended off the Blue Storm's late second half charge after the Trailblazers had opened up their largest lead of the game at 16 a few minutes into the second half.

The Trailblazers were aided by nine 3-pointers. Mulder and Foster both drained three each and sophomore Jantzen Goodwin knocked down a pair of treys. McGill hit the other from beyond the arc for VU.

VU will be idle until hosting Southeastern Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 21. The Trailblazers' 7 p.m. game will follow the VU women and SIC at 5 p.m. The games will be part of VU's annual Play4Kay event that raises funds and awareness for breast cancer research. Activities will be going on leading up to and during the Feb. 21 games. For more information, visit the Play4Kay/Kay Yow Foundation section of this web site.
