No. 11 Vincennes University men’s basketball defeats No. 14 John A. Logan

VINCENNES, Ind. – The No. 11 Vincennes University men’s basketball team defeated No. 14 John A. Logan 81-67 Saturday night at the P.E. Complex.

This win ties the district at the top with VU and John A. Logan both now 11-2 in the district. John A. Logan was on a 13-game winning streak heading in to the game. 

The game started off incredibly close with the first half coming to a close 42-36 in favor of the Trailblazers.

VU Statistical Leaders

Sophomore Kevin Osawe (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) put up 26 points and nine rebounds.

Freshman Randy Tucker (Rock Island, Ill.) scored 12 on the night, with five rebounds, and four 3-pointers.

Sophomore Craig Porter (Terre Haute, Ind.) had 14 points, nine rebounds, six blocks as well as 11 assists

Sophomore Kevin Kone (Osny, France) chipped in with 15 points, eight rebounds, and four steals.

VU Coach Todd Franklin says. . .

“Well the biggest thing was, No. 1 it was obviously important to us, we needed to win to get back even in the district. We had to get this win to get back even. It was a huge night. Nationally it was a huge game. Two teams who are top teams in the country and if they get it right down the stretch, could beat anybody.”

“We’ve been up and down and haven’t really had that edge until this week, and our guys, especially our sophomores knew it was time.”

Notes

  • VU owns a 20-3 overall record. The Trailblazers are 16-0 at home.

The Trailblazers travel to Lincoln Trail College on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 8:30 p.m. EST at Robinson, Ill.

Play for Kay Cancer Awareness

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. Kay Yow was a college head coach for 38 years and past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Her name is synonymous with North Carolina State. She is a member of the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame and achieved more than 700 career victories. Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She passed away in 2009 after an on-again, off-again battle with the disease.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.
