Olukemi, Dodd lead VU Women's Basketball in hammering Kaskaskia, 94-68

CENTRALIA, Ill. - The Vincennes Universitgy Women's Basketball Team got 23 points from freshman Jeanier Olukemi and 22 from sophomore Nicole Dodd to lead the way Saturday in routing host Kaskaskia by a 94-68 score. Sophomore Tasia Brewer finished with 18 points.

The win improved the Trailblazers to 19-2 on the season and was VU's seventh consecutive victory.

The Trailblazers led at one point late in the game by as many as 33 points after holding a 48-30 lead at halftime. VU hit six 3-pointers - including four by Dodd - and the Trailblazers drained 14-of-15 free throw attempts, plus 37-of-57 (.649) from the field overall.

VU will go back on the road Saturday, Jan. 31, at Olney Central. That game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. ("Vincennes time") and be followed by the VU Men's Basketball Team facing Olney Central at about 8:30 p.m.

Play4Kay

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
