Top-ranked VU Trailblazers remain perfect with 77-54 win over Wabash Valley

The NJCAA No. 1 Vincennes Trailblazers passed another test and kept their record unblemished with a 77-54 win Saturday night over Wabash Valley College at the VU P.E. Complex.

The victory improved VU to 11-0 and 4-0 in NJCAA District 16 competition.

Sophomore guard Everett Clemons - still recuperating from an early-season shoulder ailment - turned in an outstanding floor game and led VU with 15 points. The Warriors were led by Brian Wilson's game-high 19 points. Clemons dished out five assists, pulled down seven rebounds and registered a steal on the night. The Trailblazers also got 13 points each from sophomores A.J. Patty and Charles Foster, while sophomores Donte' McGill and Mychal Mulder finished with 10 and nine points, respectively. Mulder had a game-high 11 rebounds and Patty pulled down eight boards.

VU hit 4-of-9 from 3-point range in the first half to help take a 39-27 halftime lead. The Trailblazers then held Wabash Valley to only 27 points again in the second half and pushed the lead to as many as 25 points late in the contest when the Warriors went cold from the field.

The Trailblazers will be idle until heading to Shawnee in Ullin, IL, on Dec. 13.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
