Trailblazer golf takes third at John A. Logan Fall Invitational

MARION, Ill. –  The Vincennes University men’s golf team finished in third place at the John A. Logan Fall Invitational at The Links at Kokopelli on Tuesday.

VU shot 323 and 326 in Monday’s first and seconds rounds and followed with a 325 in Tuesday’s final round to finish at 974 strokes.

VU Performers

Sophomore Matt Jordan (Franklin, Ind.) just missed earning a medal in the 54-hole, 34-player tournament. He placed sixth in a scorecard playoff at 228 with rounds of 78, 73 and 77. Freshman Noah Crays (Plainfield, Ind.) finished at 241 after shooting 76, 83 and 82. Freshman Bryce Kirschner (Mount Vernon, Ind.) carded 243 strokes (81-81-81). Freshman Brock Craney (Washington, Ind.) shot 88, 90 and 85 for a 263. Sophomore Gage Miller (Olney, Ill.) finished at 277 with a 94, 89 and 94.

VU Coach Dennis Chattin says. . .

“We’ve got four freshmen and our inexperience shows. We haven’t been quite as consistent as we should because of that inexperience. This golf course is a pretty tough golf course. If you have at least played it or if you have played a year, you’re able to handle the adversity a little bit better. Part of the reason Matt played well is his experience and it showed.”

Notes

  • The team scores were John A. Logan (918), Rend Lake (929), VU (974), Brescia (996) and Lewis and Clark (1,010).
  • NCAA Division I Southern Illinois University Carbondale placed 1-2 in the individual standings. Markus Wilhelmsen was first with 218 strokes. He beat teammate Vikar Jonasson by one stroke. VU’s Jordan tied SIU’s Tom Cleaton, who placed fifth, at 228 strokes. Cleaton beat Jordan in a scorecard playoff. The scorecard playoff was determined using the lowest back-nine total in the final round. Jordan shot a 40, while Cleaton had a 37.
