Trailblazer volleyball posts win over Snead State

VINCENNES, Ind. -  The Vincennes University volleyball team picked up a victory with a 25-18, 22-25, 25-19, 25-23 win over Snead State at the P.E. Complex on Thursday.

VU Statistical Leaders

Sophomores Alison Smith (Oakland, Ill.), Ryleigh Fidler (Linton, Ind.) and Lauren McCrary (Vincennes, Ind.) as well as Savannah Grimes (Dieterich, Ill.) recorded double-doubles. Smith led the way with 17 digs and 12 kills. Fidler contributed 11 digs and 10 kills. McCrary added 16 assists and 11 digs. Grimes posted 23 assists and 10 digs.

Sophomore Grace Doane (Vincennes, Ind.) tallied 11 kills and four blocks. Sophomore Ariana Gentzler (Paxton, Ill.) had a team-high seven blocks.

Sophomore Brantli Lannan (Linton, Ind.) finished with 18 digs and two aces.

VU Coach Gary Sien says. . .
“This was a very good match for us as we were able to score a team total of 63 points (kills, aces and blocks). We averaged nearly 16 points per set, which is the highest point total in several weeks. Our service reception and team defense (89 total digs) was on point all match.”

Next up

VU hosts the Showdown on the Wabash tournament Oct. 4 and 5 at the P.E. Complex and Student Recreation Center. On Oct. 4, the Trailblazers play Kankakee at 3 p.m. and Marshalltown at 7 p.m. EDT. On Oct. 5, VU plays Gadsden State at noon and St. Louis Community College at 4 p.m. EDT.

Play for Kay Cancer Awareness

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. Kay Yow was a college head coach for 38 years and past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Her name is synonymous with North Carolina State. She is a member of the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame and achieved more than 700 career victories. Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She passed away in 2009 after an on-again, off-again battle with the disease.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.
