Trailblazers medal on first day of NJCAA national track and field meet

HOBBS, N.M. - Vincennes University earned two top-10 finishes at the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday.

The Trailblazers placed sixth in the men’s 4x800-meter relay finals at Ross Black Track. Freshman David McCullough, freshman Maxwell Kiplagat, freshman Milan Todorovic and sophomore Seth Vaquero finished in 7 minutes and 59.26 seconds.

Sophomore Tony Cappola took seventh in the men’s pole vault. He cleared 14 feet -1 ¼ inches (4.30 meters).

Freshman Josh Kinser finished 12th in the men’s hammer throw with a throw of 138-0 (42.07m).

In the women’s 10,000 run, sophomore Elizabeth Bredeweg was 12th. She crossed the finish line in 44:21.01.

The championships continue today and run through Saturday.

VU is tied for 15th in the men’s team standings with four points. The top three teams are Coffeyville (27), Cloud County (22) and Iowa Central (21).

Play for Kay Cancer Awareness

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. Kay Yow was a college head coach for 38 years and past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Her name is synonymous with North Carolina State. She is a member of the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame and achieved more than 700 career victories. Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She passed away in 2009 after an on-again, off-again battle with the disease.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.
