Trailblazers take volleyball court twice over weekend

VINCENNES, Ind. -  The Vincennes University volleyball team’s first week of competition continued with two matches at the McHenry County College Invite on Saturday.

VU vs. Carl Sandburg College

Carl Sandburg, No. 20 in the NJCAA Division II preseason poll, won 25-23, 14-25, 25-18, 28-26 against the Trailblazers.

VU Statistical Leaders

Sophomore Alison Smith (Oakland, Ill.)  notched 16 digs and 10 kills. Sophomore Ryli Bobbitt (Sullivan, Ind.) posted nine kills, three blocks and two aces. Sophomore Brantli Lannan (Linton, Ind.) had 14 digs. Freshman Morgen Tinkle (Rockville, Ind.) tallied 20 assists, while sophomore Lauren McCrary (Vincennes, Ind.) contributed 10 assists. Sophomore Ryleigh Fidler (Linton, Ind.) finished with nine kills. Freshman Breanna Metzger (Tennyson, Ind.) produced six blocks followed by sophomore Grace Doane (Vincennes, Ind.) with five blocks.

VU vs. Waubonsee Community College

The Trailblazers almost won a close match, but fell by scores of 25-21, 24-26, 25-16, 23-25, 17-15.

VU Statistical Leaders

Smith came up with another double-double performance, producing 22 digs and 14 kills along with two aces. Lannan totaled 32 digs. Fidler added 19 digs and Tinkle contributed 14 digs as well as 21 assists. McCrary posted 20 assists. VU blocking leaders were Bobbitt and Metzger. Bobbitt had seven blocks and five kills. Metzger recorded seven kills and six blocks.

VU Coach Gary Sien says. . .
“Ryli Bobbitt again played very well in both matches in the front row and in her back row play. Brantli Lannan was also consistent with her defensive work and service reception. Breanna Metzger showed very good blocking as we matched her up with both teams’ strongest hitter at the net.”


  • The Trailblazers have an overall record of 1-2.

The Trailblazers kick off their home schedule on Aug. 27 at the P.E. Complex against Lincoln Trail at 7 p.m. EDT.

Play for Kay Cancer Awareness

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. Kay Yow was a college head coach for 38 years and past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Her name is synonymous with North Carolina State. She is a member of the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame and achieved more than 700 career victories. Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She passed away in 2009 after an on-again, off-again battle with the disease.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.
