Trailblazers use first half surge, second half cruise to top Ancilla, 95-71

Freshmen Jeremiah Bell and Nate Hansen both scored 16 points to lead a balanced scoring attack as the Vincennes University Men's Basketball Team topped Ancilla, 95-71, Friday night in the second game of VU's Sodexo Classic.

In addition to the combined 32 points from Bell and Hansen, VU got freshman Theo Holloway's 15 points and sophomore Stuart Jackson finished with 14.

Sophomores Everett Norman and Travon Brackett both scored 15 to lead Ancilla.

The early stages of the game didn't reflect the final outcome. The Trailblazers were up 15-10 near the midway point in the first half. But VU outscored the Chargers 9-0 over the next two minutes, including Holloway's 3-pointer from the top of the key as he was fouled. After Holloway sank the free throw for the four-point play, VU was up 24-10 near the 8:00 mark.

From that juncture, the Trailblazers outscored Ancilla 23-15 to maintain the lead and head to the locker room at halftime with a 47-25 advantage. VU edged the Chargers, 48-46, in the second half to preserve the victory.

The Trailblazers shot 50 percent (32-of-64) from the floor. That figure included a 14-of-29 performance as a team from 3-point land.

VU goes right back into action Saturday night when the Trailblazers take on Kankakee at 7 p.m. Kankakee lost to John A. Logan in Friday's first game of the Sodexo Classic.
