Vincennes University volleyball roster grows

VINCENNES, Ind. – Vincennes University volleyball coach Gary Sien has added Grace Earp (Mattoon High School/Mattoon, Illinois) to the Trailblazers’ 2020 roster.

Earp is a 5-8 defensive specialist and outside hitter. She was a Mattoon High School all-tournament pick in 2019 and was named to the all-Apollo Conference second team. Earp tallied 176 kills for a 41.81 percentage. She also recorded 132 digs, 24 aces, 24 assists and 14 solo blocks in 67 sets. She had a 94.50 serving percentage in 30 matches.

“Grace possesses several skill sets we like to see in our athletes,” Sien said. “Though she is coming to us primarily as a back row player, we love the fact that she can hit. We typically want our players to be capable of playing more than one position and Grace fits the bill. We expect her to be a leader as well.

“Our primary libero position is wide open next year as we graduate our starting libero. In my four seasons at the University, that position was one of the most consistent. Two out of four years, we had a player who was either No. 1 or 2 in the nation and top 10 in the other years for total digs.”

Earp is an Illinois State Scholar. Earp has earned high honor roll honors all four years. She will major in nursing.

"Grace is an outstanding athlete, both on and off the volleyball court,” Mattoon High School coach Kayla Quick said. “She is an ambitious, focused young woman that will persist in the face of any challenge to reach her goals. Her determination, leadership, and positive attitude make her a model for others to follow.

“While her time at Mattoon High School is coming to a close, I have no doubt that Grace will continue to accomplish great things as she transitions to Vincennes University to begin her college career.”
