VU Baseball tops Olney Central, 7-4, behind nine-hit attack

The Vincennes University Baseball Team topped visiting Olney Central, 7-4, Tuesday at Jerry Blemker Field behind the Trailblazer lineup's nine-hit attack that featured sophomore Brad Hartman's 2-for-5, two-RBI performance from the leadoff spot and sophomore Lance Myers' pair of hits. The VU offense also included a triple by sophomore Alex Rojas and a double by sophomore Chris Minks. When it was all over, seven Trailblazers had hit safely. Rojas and sophomore Jake Carey both scored twice.

VU freshman starter Bryant Jackson and three relievers combined to scatter seven Olney Central hits and hold the Blue Knights scoreless until the fourth inning. Lane Dransfield (1-1) got the win in relief and Jared Lauer got his second save of the season. Olney Central didn't get on the board again until the visitors scored single runs in each of the last three frames of the nine-inning contest.

The Trailblazers (19-20) will return to action Friday with a nine-inning contest at Jerry Blemker Field vs. the Indiana State University Club Baseball Team. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. The latter portion of the Trailblazers' schedule has been shuffled because of cancellations early in the season.
