VU Men’s Performers

Freshman Maxwel Kiplagat (Iten, Kenya) led the way for the Trailblazers with a 26th-place finish in the 8K men’s race at the University of New Mexico Golf Course-North Course. He crossed the line in 25:32.03. Sophomore Morne Scharnick (Gauteng, South Africa) placed 33rd in 25:48.85. Sophomore Milan Todorovic (Belgrade, Serbia) finished 37th in 26:02.94. VU Women’s Performers

The Trailblazers’ five scoring runners produced 616 points. Freshman Meagan Moreno (Morton, Ill.) was VU’s highest placer in the 5K women’s race. She finished 27th in 19:29.17. Freshman Emily Remsburg Elnora, Ind.) crossed the finish line 211th in 24:24.66.

VU Coach Chris Gafner says. . .

“Racing at over 5000 feet of altitude was challenging, but I was very pleased with how we competed. The men finished 3 spots better than where they were ranked and the women finished exactly where they were ranked going in.

“Meagan, Maxwel and Morne all earned Coaches Association All-American honors by finishing in the top 40. Milan missed out on that honor by less than a second.”

“This cross country season was a positive step forward for both the men's and women's teams at VU. I'm looking forward to competing at a high level at the half marathon in El Paso in two weeks.”
