VU follows up win in Brescia event with strong day at Rose-Hulman invitational

The Vincennes University Golf Team claimed the Brescia University Invitational Thursday and Friday at Christmas Lake Golf Course in Santa Claus, IN, then moved directly into the Rose-Hulman Invitational at Hulman Links in Terre Haute, IN, and ended Saturday's first round of play tied for the lead in that event.

The Trailblazers maintained their first day lead in the Brescia event and finished with a total score of 609 to outdistance second place Kentucky Wesleyan's 628. VU Coach Dennis Chattin was proud of and very pleased with his team's performance on the Santa Claus course.
"The tournament was held under tough conditions," Chattin said. "Thursday's round was wet, windy and cold. Friday's round was really cold and windy... even some snow.
"I can't tell you how good it was to have two 73s by Cam (Weyer) and Palmer (Hill) in those conditions," added.
Weyer's performance on the second day grabbed the tournament champion honors. He shot a 76 in the first round and carded a 73 on the second day to win with a total score of 149. Hill recorded scores of 78 and 73 to finish third with a score of 151. VU's Jacob Bartley had led at the end of the first day of play at the Brescia Invitational. He finished fourth with scores of 72 and 80 (152 total score). The other two Trailblazers were Austin Leonard (77, 80; 157) and John  Glenn (83, 85; 168).
The team finishes were as follows:

Trailblazer Alex Halter went to the clubhouse Saturday with a 74 and Leonard was right behind him with a 75. Weyer concluded play on Saturday with a 78 and Hill had a score of 81.
"Those top three scores are great on a golf course like Hulman Links, and our team score of 300 is a great score in these cold, wet conditions," Chattin stated.
