VU Golf starts season at Fall Preview

WEST FRANKFORT, Ill.. -  The Vincennes University Golf team started off the season at the Rend Lake Fall Preview at Franklin County Country Club on Friday.

The Trailblazers had to shake off the rust a little in the first round of the season with freshman Bryce Kirschner (North Vernon, Ind.) leading VU with 74. Sophomore Matt Jordan (Franklin, Ind.) ended his round with an 82. Freshmen Noah Crays (Plainfield, Ind.), Brock Craney (Washington, Ind.) and sophomore Gage Miller (Olney, Ill.) rounded out the Vincennes first round with 84, 85, and 86 respectively.

Round two was kinder to the VU golf team as Matt Jordan finished with a 70. Crays and Kirschner put up 77 and 78, with Miller and Craney rounding out the Trailblazer round with 81 and 85. Vincennes finished with a round one score of 325 and a round two score of 306, for a combined tournament total of 631.

Coach Dennis Chattin said of his team's early season performance, “It was a tail of two teams. I think our first tournament nervousness showed up in the first round.” “I was pleased that we came back and played better. We still have room for improvement but at least we didn’t embarrass ourselves in the second round.” Of his team’s individual performances Chattin added, “Matt (Jordan) had a good comeback after a round he doesn’t normally have. Freshman Bryce Kirschner had a nice first tournament as well.”

The Trailblazers will host the VU Invitational Sept. 7-8 at Country Oaks Golf Course in Montgomery, Ind.
