VU's Eric Blackman 7th after 5 events in Decathlon national championship

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – In the early portion of Session I of the 2015 NJCAA National Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Vincennes University sophomore Eric Blackman had completed the first day’s scheduled five Decathlon events and was in seventh place with 3,277 points.
The Purdue signee’s highlight of the Decathlon thus far was a second place finish in the High Jump at 6 feet, 9.5 inches. In the other four completed Decathlon events, he was:
·    Fourth in the Shot Put:           36 feet, 5 inches,
·    Eighth in the Long Jump:        20 feet, 8 inches,
·    15th in the 400 Meter Dash:   57.08, and,
·    15th I the 100 Meter Dash:     11.82.
Sophomore Michael Samuels of South Plains was first after five events with 3,640 points.
The Decathlon competitors still have the 110 Meter Hurdles, Discus, Pole Vault, Javelin and 1500 Meter Run to complete in the event on Day No. 2 of the meet.
Other competitions set to start today (Thursday) are the Men’s Hammer Throw, Women’s Hammer Throw, Women’s 10,000 Meter Run and Men’s 10,000 Meter Run. The complete schedule for the NJCAA National Outdoor Track & Field Championships is attached. Events will run through part of the day on Saturday.

Play for Kay Cancer Awareness

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. Kay Yow was a college head coach for 38 years and past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Her name is synonymous with North Carolina State. She is a member of the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame and achieved more than 700 career victories. Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She passed away in 2009 after an on-again, off-again battle with the disease.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.
