VU volleyball team handles Lincoln Trail

ROBINSON, Ill. - The Vincennes University volleyball team handled host Lincoln Trail College in four games, 25-23, 25-11, 25-27, 25-19 on Tuesday.

VU Statistical Leaders

Sophomore Alison Smith (Oakland, Illinois) had a big night at the net for the Trailblazers with a team-high 12 kills, while sophomore Grace Doane (Vincennes, Indiana) contributed 10. Freshman Savannah Grimes (Dieterich, Illinois) posted a team-leading 20 assists, while sophomore Lauren McCrary (Vincennes, Indiana) contributed 15. Grimes topped the squad with three aces, while sophomore Brantli Lannan (Linton, Indiana) led five players to reach double digits in digs with 17. Sophomore Ryli Bobbitt (Sullivan, Indiana) led the team with 10 blocks.

VU Coach Gary Sien says. . .

“The team did a great job of playing through some controversial moments. Our tough serving and blocking brought us back in key moments of the match. We are on a nice streak now as we approach a couple of important matches in the region.”

Next up

The Trailblazers will hold their Sophomore Day prior to Saturday’s 10 a.m. (EDT) match against Lake Land. The team will host Frontier Community College at 2 p.m.

Play4Kay

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
