VU Women's Basketball improves to 26-3 on season with win over SIC

The Vincennes University Women's Basketball Team bumped its record to 26-3 on the season as sophomore Nicole Dodd scored 20 points, freshman Jeanier Olukemi finished with 19 and sophomore Tasia Brewer had 16 points and nine rebounds when the Trailblazers topped Southeastern Illinois 80-63 Sunday at the VU P.E. Complex.

VU's 6-for-10 shooting from beyond the arc helped the Trailblazers keep Southeastern Illinois at-bay, but the Falcons' 20 turnovers also helped VU pull out to a 17-point second half lead that it rode to the win.

The Trailblazers will be idle until Saturday, Feb. 28, when the VU women host Kaskaskia at 5 p.m. at the VU P.E. Complex. The VU men will follow vs. Kaskaskia at about 7 p.m. The evening will be Sophomore Night for both VU teams and VU's Play4Kay activities will be held that night after being rescheduled from Feb. 21.

Play4Kay

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
