VU Women's Basketball returns to action with win over Cincinnati State, 82-64

The Vincennes University Women's Basketball returned to 2015-16 action Saturday following the holiday break and improved to 14-1 on the campaign with an 82-64 win over visiting Cincinnati State at the VU P.E. Complex.

It was also VU's 14th consecutive win as sophomore guard Brooke Dossett scored 17 points and freshman Joshlynn King and Laurhen Pickett both added 14 to lead the Trailblazers. Sophomore Kyra Tucker finished with 12 and sophomore Chelsea Bentley and freshman Marley Miller chipped in with nine each. Tucker had nine rebounds and Bentley dished out four assists for VU.

Cincinnati State's Jacie Dickerson scored a game-high 20 for The Surge. Montrail Roberts added 18 for the visitors (10-6).

VU got off to a sluggish start in shaking off the holiday break rust and fought its way out to a nine-point lead late in the first half. The Trailblazers maintained that margin to lead 35-26 at halftime behind all nine of Bentley's points and eight Tucker points. At the midway points, VU also held a 22-13 rebounding advantage on the way to a 44-27 board victory for the game.

After the game had been tied three times and saw six lead changes, the Trailblazers managed to take command. VU opened up its largest lead at 21 points with just over 3:00 remaining in the third quarter.

The Region 12 Trailblazers will return to action Wednesday by returning to NJCAA District 16 action vs. a Region 24 foe. VU will host Lincoln Trail at 5 p.m. prior to the Trailblazer men hosting the Statesmen at 7 p.m.
