VU Women's Basketball routs John A. Logan, 99-52

The Vincennes University Women’s Basketball Team led by as many 61 points at one juncture and routed visiting John A. Logan 99-52 Wednesday night behind 29 points from freshman Jeanier Olukemi.

The Trailblazers (14-2) also got 21 points from freshman Chelsea Bentley and 15 from sophomore Nicole Dodd. Bentley and Dodd both finished with nine rebounds each.

The Trailblazers were never challenged and, with the exception of a 2-0 Volunteer lead to open the game, never trailed. By the half, VU was up 58-29 behind 13 points by Olukemi, 11 by Dodd and 10 by Bentley. John A. Logan also had 15 first half turnovers while the Trailblazers had only committed one miscue and led at one point in the first half by 34.

After halftime, the Trailblazers broke the Volunteers’ spirit by scoring 41 points and the VU defense pressured the Volunteers into yielding to nine Trailblazer steals, matching VU’s total in the first 20 minutes.

Olukemi was 8-for-8 from the field in the second half – many of her 16 second half points coming on steals or thefts by others that led to breakaway layups. She was 14-for-15 for the game. Bentley was 5-for-8 in the second half. The duo keyed VU’s 44-for-85 (.518) shooting performance overall for the game.

The Trailblazers will travel Saturday to Southwestern Illinois in Belleville, IL. The ladies tip off at 2 p.m. (“Vincennes time”) and that game will be followed by the VU men facing Southwestern Illinois at about 4 p.m.
