Sports Statistician

(Support Staff)

Department: Athletics

Part-time, up to 20 hours per week

Anticipated Start Date: October

End date: March

Job Summary

Event staff employees are required to be knowledgeable of conference and NJCAA rules and regulations for the respective sport event.

Hours include day, nights and weekends and possibly holidays.

Compile and distribute sport related statistics (Live Stats included).

Provide sports coverage for home and away athletic events.

Manage, upkeep and archive statistics for both men and women’s basketball teams.

Travel and report on all post-season and NJCAA Championship events.

Assist the University’s Director of Media Relations in special projects and/or activities.

Job Description


A strong knowledge of the game of basketball.

A willingness to learn basketball statistical software.

Obtain team rosters twenty minutes before the start of the games.

Compile statistics for each game.

Maintain scores and records for each game.

Record and post individual and team statistics in accordance with the official NJCAA rules.

Pay Rate: $40.00 per game

Play for Kay Cancer Awareness

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. Kay Yow was a college head coach for 38 years and past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Her name is synonymous with North Carolina State. She is a member of the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame and achieved more than 700 career victories. Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She passed away in 2009 after an on-again, off-again battle with the disease.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.
