INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Vincennes University and Associated Builders and Contractors Indiana/Kentucky Chapter today announced a partnership to train ABC members through Vincennes University’s Business and Industry Workforce Development Safety Training program beginning this month.

The partnership allows ABC members to receive focused training in the areas of OSHA 10, 30, First Aid/CPR/AED, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Scaffolding, Trenching/Soil Mechanics, Aerial Lift, Forklift, Silica and Site Audits.

“This partnership will provide ABC with a broader offering of safety services over the geographic expanse of two states,” said J.R. Gaylor, president of ABC.

VU and ABC established an apprenticeship degree program for construction trades in 2004. It is certified by the Federal Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship, and utilizes the globally recognized construction curriculum provider National Center for Construction Education and Research. With eight current VU/ABC locations in Indiana, that four-year program allows students to progress from an apprentice to journeyperson with the ultimate goal of receiving journeyperson credentials on successful completion of the program. Students may also earn a VU associate degree in apprenticeship technology during their four-year apprenticeship experience.

The goal of the new Workforce Development Safety Training program with ABC is to enhance efficiency by positively affecting on-the-job safety, increasing productivity, and dramatically reducing down-time, resulting in a safe, healthy, skilled, adaptive, and motivated workforce.

“We are excited to develop and offer this program in collaboration with our partners at ABC,” said VU President Chuck Johnson. “This program will build on our long-standing apprenticeship program in Indiana and VU’s history of developing programming that meets employer-driven needs.”

The program, developed by VU in coordination with the Great Lakes OSHA Education Center by direction from Associated Builders and Contractors Inc., will be offered throughout Indiana and Kentucky.
