Red Skelton Funny Film Series

January 4, 2017 - Red Skelton Funny Film Series

VINCENNES, Ind. - The 2017 Red Skelton Funny Film Series kicks off with the film “Nothing Sacred” on January 10, 7 p.m. (EST), at the Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy.  The museum is adjacent to the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center, 20 Red Skelton Blvd., on the Vincennes University campus.  Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

A different film will be offered once a month, on Tuesdays, which is the same night the Red Skelton Show aired.

“Nothing Sacred” features the legendary Carole Lombard, a native of Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Her first movie role was in 1925 with Vincennes native Buck Jones. She became a major comedy star in “Twentieth Century” (1934) and was nominated for an Oscar for “My Man Godfrey” (1936). She was married to the King of Hollywood, Clark Gable, and perished in a 1942 plane crash returning from a war bond tour in Indianapolis.

In “Nothing Sacred,” a demoted New York newspaper reporter begs his boss for another chance.  He is sent to the fictional town of Warsaw, Vermont, to interview Hazel Flagg (Lombard), who is supposedly dying of radium poisoning. Unaware that she just found out that she is not dying, the reporter invites her to New York as the guest of the Morning Star newspaper.

The 2017 Red Skelton Funny Film Series will continue through June on the third Tuesday of the month.  Scheduled showings include: “Roxanne” (1987) on Feb. 21, “The Stooge” (1952) on March 21, “The Egg and I” (1947) on April 18, “Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure” (1989) on May 15, and “The Sunshine Boys” (1975) on June 20.
