November 3, 2016 / Tribute to Veterans at Red Skelton Performing Arts Center
VINCENNES, Ind. - Students from the Civitan Children’s Center led the Pledge of Allegiance and performed patriotic songs as part of a Tribute to Veterans program on Nov. 3 at Vincennes University’s Red Skelton Performing Arts Center. Other student participants included members of the Vincennes Lincoln High School ROTC who posted and retired the colors.
Speakers included Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum, VU President Chuck Johnson, and Col. Lee Baker, Senior Army Instructor. Indiana’s Honor Roll, a video tribute to fallen Indiana warriors, was presented by Harold Hensley, Knox County Veterans Service Officer, and Alex Sievers, director of the VU Military Education Program, served as the master of ceremonies. Scott Shipman, VU Christian Campus Fellowship, offered the invocation and benediction. A 21-Gun Salute was presented at the conclusion of the program by the All-Weather Firing Squad. It is composed of members of the American Legion, VFW, 40 et 8, and Disabled American Veterans.
The Tribute to Veterans is annually sponsored by the VU Support Staff Council. It honors veterans and those currently serving in the armed forces. Music in the lobby, both before and after the program, was provided by VU faculty and students and Sodexo provided refreshments.
