How to Accept Direct Student Loans
The option to accept federal student loans on your MyVU account for a new award year is usually not available until after July 5. An email will be sent to you when this process is available.
To apply for a federal direct student loan, follow these directions:
- Go to www.vinu.edu and click on the MyVU link.
- Log in with your username and password.
- Under Quick Links, click on Financial Aid Status.
- Click on Award link.
- Click Award for Aid Year link.
- Select 2022-2023 from the drop-down box and click Submit.
- Click Accept Award Offer tab.
- Accept the amounts of the Federal Direct Loan(s) you want to borrow.
- Follow directions in Steps 10-13 on how to complete Entrance Counseling and E-sign your MPN (Master Promissory Note).
- Go to studentaid.gov and Log In using your FSA ID username and password.
- Click I’m in School, then click Complete Entrance Counseling. Click Start for I am an Undergraduate Student. Allow about 30 minutes to complete this process. Follow directions and steps from there.
- Once finished with Entrance Counseling, click on “Sign your Master Promissory Note” to complete and E-sign. Click on Start for “I’m an Undergraduate Student” Use this MPN for Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans. NOTE: For the ‘References’ section you need the address and phone number of two people. One can be a parent with your same address; the other must be someone with a different address.
- After you review your data and the loan information, including the Promise to Pay, complete the Sign & Submit section.
