Faculty and Staff Spotlight: Meet Dr. Aiqin Fang, Assistant Chemistry Professor

Dr. Aiqin Fang

Dr. Aiqin Fang teaches chemistry, and she serves students as an academic advisor for the Pre-Veterinary and Pre-Dental programs. Fang, who is originally from Qingdao in China, started at VU in 2016. She earned a doctoral degree from the University of Louisville. The research training during her master, doctoral and postdoctoral graduate studies involved proteomics, metabolomics, nanomaterials, nanotechnologies, microorganisms, and biosensors. All are popular research areas in the chemistry field.
  
What do you love about working at VU?

"Working at VU provides me opportunities to know students with diverse backgrounds. Working at VU also trains me to be excellent in student advising, community service, and program assessment besides teaching."

What advice would you like to share with current students or prospective students?

"Take advantage of the small-size classes that VU offers. Small-size classes allow students to get more attention from their professors during the class, immediate feedback on assignments, and specific help needed to improve their course grades."

Who would you most like to meet?

"My parents and siblings in China. I have not seen them since 2017 due to the pandemic. I miss them very much."

What is your favorite place in the world and why?

"No place in the world is better than home. I enjoy my time with my boys and husband at home in Evansville. I feel relaxed and love at home."

Where would you love to travel next?

"I would love to travel to China if possible. I desperately want to give my parents a hug."

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

"My new hobby is baking. I am enjoying making cakes for family members and friends. I also like shopping, crafting, and exercising."
