What is Accuplacer?

Vincennes University administers the Accuplacer, a computerized placement exam. Student will be tested in reading, writing, and math with the scores being used by an Academic Advisor for placement into freshman level classes. While the test has no time limit, most students can complete it in 90 minutes.

Face-to-Face Testing Capacity:

Testing times are currently limited to 16 testers in Indianapolis and 30 testers in Vincennes, per start time to ensure appropriate physical distancing.

Accuplacer Practice Tests

To help students achieve their best scores possible, practice tests can be found here: Practice Accuplacer Test

The test consists of three general areas:

  • Reading Comprehension - 20 questions
  • Writing - 25 questions
  • Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics - 20 questions

Depending upon your score in Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics: you may also take a math sub-test.

Do not bring a calculator.  If you are allowed to use a calculator on any given math problem, an "on-screen" calculator will be provided to you.  If the calculator icon is visible, you may click it and the on-screen calculator will appear.  If the icon is not visible, you may NOT use any other type of calculator; handheld, cellphone, Windows, other websites, etc.  The "on-screen" calculator is the only one permitted for use.

The Accuplacer test is untimed, however, most students will finish the test in under 2 hours. When you finish, your Individual Score Report will be shown indicating the results of the test just completed (Reading, Writing and Math sub-tests).

Do your best... the results DO matter!

ACCUPLACER TESTING APPOINTMENT REQUEST

Preparing for the Accuplacer test

There are Accuplacer study tools and several other free test preparation websites available for use as listed on the Testing Practice Sites page.

Your Vincennes University Student ID
You should not test until you have submitted an application to Vincennes University and receive your student ID number;  your "A" number.  If you take your test before you are "applied/accepted" we will have no student record where we can post your test scores.  After you submit your application, you should wait approximately 10 days before taking your Accuplacer placement test.  When you have your "A" number, you can make arrangements to take your test.

You will receive an email from the Management Information Center containing your VU student ID number ("A" number) and your VU email address. Once you receive your "A" number, you can take your Accuplacer placement test.  You cannot test unless you have your A number. You will use your "A" number as your ID number for the Accuplacer test.

If you need to retrieve their "A" number, they can visit myvuhelp@vinu.edu and send an email requesting their number.  Allow 3-4 hours for a telephone response from the help desk.

Placement and Entry Testing Policy
The Testing Center offers the Accuplacer placement test to any individual enrolling at Vincennes University.  Regarding placement testing, the following guidelines should be considered and observed:

  • All persons must present a photo ID to test.
  • The prospective student should first fill out an application to the University. This provides a “student profile” for the test scores and minimizes the possibility of scores not being posted to the student record and available to advisors for course registration.  Please know your "A" number/student ID when you take the test.
